ABSTRACT
Twenty faculty, involved in deliberation on issues of liberal education at a large university, showed striking polarities in criteria for assessing liberal education. Further, these faculty seemed largely unaware of their marked differences. The visceral-priorities schema may have potential for reducing the confusion that hampers discussions of liberal education.
