MPs seek action on alternatives to custody

The article reports on the need to give serious considerations to alternatives to custody for certain prisoners in order to alleviate prison overcrowding in Great Britain. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has urged the National Offender Management Service to learn the lessons of 2002. According to PAC chairman Edward Leigh, overcrowding undermined many of the objectives of custody.
