ABSTRACT
The article provides information on bills introduced in the House and Senate in the U.S. in May 2006 designed to increase natural gas supplies. The House Appropriations Committee approved a bill introduced by Representative John Peterson to remove a brag-standing moratorium on natural gas drilling on most of the country's Outer Continental Shelf. In the Senate, Senators Pete Domenici and Jeff Bingaman introduced a bill that would open 3-million acres of the Gulf of Mexico, the area known as Lease 181, to energy development.
