ABSTRACT
The article offers a look at Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Sharon was the father of the settler movement, establishing settlements all over the West Bank. In 2000, a visit by Sharon to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem set off riots. Sharon wanted peace with Palestinian Arabs and believed he was the politician to bring it about. Sharon was the first prime minister to dismantle the settlements he had built. He abandoned the Likud Party. He has now suffered two strokes.
