ABSTRACT
The article reports that the government of the province of Ontario has announced details of its plan to replace all coal fired generation by the beginning of 2009. The plan relies only on 515MWe of nuclear capacity--which is provided by the now completed restart of Pickering A unit 1. The first coal-fired plant to be affected by the plan was the 1150MWe Lakeview station, which was closed in April 2005. These announcements underscores just how serious the need for new supply is in Ontario. This integrated resource system plan will provide the roadmap for nuclear power in the province.
