ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the socio-economic and political conditions in Bhutan. The population of Bhutan is 2,232,291 and population density is 123 per square meter. The ethnic groups include Bhote 50%, Nepalese 35%, and indigenous tribes 15%. The government type in Bhutan is monarchy and the head of state is the king Jigme Singye Wangchuk and the head of the government is the prime minister, Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup. The major industries that drive the economy include cement, wood products, processing fruits, alcoholic beverages, and calcium carbide. Chief crops include rice, corn, root crops, citrus, and grains. The gross domestic product growth in 2003 was 5.3%.
