ABSTRACT
This article looks at Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's recent decision to leave his Likud party in the Israeli government to form a new centrist party called Kadima. Analysts believe Sharon left Likud because of a group of hardliners who oppose any appeasement with the Palestinians. It is believed that Sharon plans to make a major accommodation with the Palestinians in the future. Some believe that Sharon's character flaw of always pushing ahead against advice and without thinking of the consequences is the reason he left Likud. INSET: Sharon's Power Play.
