ABSTRACT
This article reports that Vattenfall AB has announced plans to build the biggest wind farm in northern Europe. Sweden's largest power group will build between 100 and 150 wind power plants in the Baltic Sea. It is keen to make use of its home country's green power incentives by selling clean generation certificates to customers, however Sweden's planning laws remain incompatible with its environmental ambitions and are a hindrance to similar renewables projects. The farm will generate over 2TWh of electricity per year and have a total output of up to 640MW. If Vattenfall is awarded the concession for construction, it will begin building in 2009, with completion targeted for the following year.
