ABSTRACT
The article reports that the phenomenon of autistic regression, where a child who has developed normally during the first year of life goes on to develop an autistic spectrum disorder, has been scientifically validated for the first time. The U.S. study included 20 normally developing children and 36 children with an autistic spectrum disorder. Based on parental reports, 21 of the children with autism were classified as 'early-onset' and 15 as 'late-onset.' Researchers analysed videos of first and second birthday parties for developmental differences.
