The article presents information on Fastening systems that are equipped with intelligent technology. Proprietary intelligent fastening technology in which fasteners are equipped with embedded microprocessors remotely controlled by intelligent tools, has been developed by Telezygology Inc., Chicago, Illinois and licensed by Textron Fastening Systems Inc. The fastener actuating mechanism can range from simple magnetic or electromagnetic means to more sophisticated actuation via shape memory-alloys and polymers, or magnetostrictive, electrostrictive, and piezoelectric materials.
