This article reports that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has completed its largest green power purchase to date. The EPA finalized a three-year contract with Unicoi Energy Services of Marietta, Georgia, to provide the agency's facilities in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, with 100 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually, which is equivalent to the amount of energy consumed by 3,680 homes. It is informed that the EPA buys more than 220 million kilowatt-hours of green power for 26 of its facilities, laboratories and offices throughout the country. Renewable energy accounts for 77 percent of the agency's national electricity consumption.
