Spectra;Aug1974, Vol. 10 Issue 4, p14
This article highlights the 25th Annual Business Meeting of the American Forensic Association (AFA) on November 8-10, 1973. It moved to send a mail ballot to the entire membership asking whether or not to allot two year colleges to participate in the National Debate Tournament (NDT) through the pre and post-district at-large procedures. It also moved that the report of the Debate Aids Committee be referred to the Educational Practices Committee with special attention to conclusion seven, with the Educational Practices Committee becoming the clearinghouse for complaints. AFA approved a $21,650 budget for 1974-75. The meeting amended the by-laws of the AFA Constitution by adding a new standing committee to be called the Two-Year College Committee. To facilitate an open exchange of ideas, the AFA along with other professional organizations is sponsoring a National Developmental Conference on Forensics. This conference seeks to provide a forum for individuals to discuss substantively the nature and work of American debate programs and practices. The program also aims to promulgate recommendations concerning future goals and procedures for forensics education. George Ziegelmueller has been appointed to the NDT Board of Trustees, 1974-79.
