ABSTRACT
This article reports on the actions taken by the Administrative Committee of the Speech Communication Association (SCA) at meetings held in the SCA National office in Annandale, Virginia on September 13-14, 1981. At the meetings, the committee: dealt with matters deriving from the work of the Task Force on Black Opportunity in the Profession; learned that a final draft of a handbook for new members should be ready for review in March; approved for transmission to the Legislative Council a revised, balanced budget for the current fiscal year; adopted recommendations to the Council for SCA election procedures; voted to support a resolution decrying the proposed dissolution of the U.S. Department of Education; called for the creation of an ad hoc committee to study SCA nominating procedures; appointed a subcommittee to make recommendations for improving Association planning procedures; moved to recommend to the Council that the Annual Meetings for 1984 and 1986 be held in Chicago; authorized the Publications Board to pursue negotiations that may lead to joint publications with the Craig Norback Company; encouraged the Publications Board to further develop its proposal for a new journal tentatively titled, Critical Studies in Mass Communication; reviewed a proposal for extensive in-house computerization of SCA National Office operations; recommend approval of Pi Kappa Delta as an affiliate organization.
