ABSTRACT
This article presents the awardees at the 70th Annual Meeting of the Speech Communication Association (SCA) in Chicago, Illinois on November 1-4, 1984. Among the awards and awardees presented at the association's meeting were the following: The SCA Distinguished Service Award was presented to Robert G. Gunderson of Indiana University. Meanwhile, the Golden Anniversary Fund Awards were awarded to: Randall L. Bytwerk of Southern Illinois University for his book "Julius Streicher: The Man Who Persuaded a Nation to Hate Jews; Ronald H. Carpenter for his article "America's Opinion Leader Historians on Behalf of Success," published in the May 1983 issue of the "Quarterly Journal of Speech;" and Ronald F. Reid for his article "Apocalypticism and Typology: Rhetorical Dimensions of a Symbolic Reality," published in the August 1983 issue of the "Quarterly Journal of Speech." For the Dissertation Awards, the following are the awardees: Carole Blair for the dissertation "An Archaeological Critique of the History of Rhetorical Theory: Beyond Historical-Critical Dualism in the Analysis of Theoretieal Discourse;" David Branco for "Dramaturgical Rhetoric: Erving Goffman's Interactional Theory of Communication Conduct;" and Martha Cooper for "The Implications of Foucault's Archaeological Theory of Discourse for Rhetorical Theory and Criticism."
