ABSTRACT
This article describes leadership positions available at the Speech Communication Association (SCA) in 1997. The SCA Committee on Committees will meet in Chicago, Illinois during the 1997 convention to nominate persons to the SCA Legislative Council, and for appointment to SCA leadership positions. The following is a summary of positions to be filled in 1998. The Legislative Council is the principal policy making body of SCA. It is responsible for establishing internal and external policies and for managing the association's resources and programs. Its approximately 90 members include representatives from the SCA divisions and sections; a representative from the States Advisory Council and the Association for Communication Administration; representatives from the regional communication associations; SCA officers and board chairs; editors of SCA journals; representatives from the National Office; and representatives of the membership appointed by the council and elected at-large by the SCA membership. Each year the Committee on Committees is asked to nominate two persons for three-year terms on the SCA Legislative Council who will recognize emerging interests and critical problems and help the Council achieve a balanced representation of teaching levels, ethnic and minority group interests, gender, age and academic status. The Educational Policies Board encourages, endorses, or engages in projects related to the improvement of instruction in communication at all grade levels. In November 1997, the Committee on Committees nominated two individuals to serve for a three-year term at the board.
