ABSTRACT
The article discusses the documentation of American Civil War battlefields and casualties through the scrapbooks of Southerners in the U.S. during the war. Topics explored include the memorial scrapbooks created by physician Henry Ingersoll Bowditch which contained clippings of published poems, the literary skills associated with the selection, pasting, and arrangement of newspaper clippings in scrapbooks, and the historical significance of the scrapbook of Jewish merchant Moses J. Solomons.
