ABSTRACT
At school in a classroom job, a child is in charge of the reading center — caring for and organizing books. It may be the first time a child has got the opportunity to be responsible for a collection of items that do not belong to him. This helps to build self-esteem and an understanding of responsibility and accountability in a child. At home parents can help reinforce this sense of responsibility by working with their child to care for his books. They can also teach him about sorting by helping him arrange the books from biggest to smallest or thickest to thinnest.
