ABSTRACT
The article discusses the growing popularity of word gardens in schools in the U.S. Topics covered include the educational, social and environmental benefits of word gardens, the association of word gardens to literacy and language, and recommended ideas for building word gardens. It also presents word gardens at various schools including Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont, Waitsfield Elementary School in Waitsfield, Vermont, and Haldane Elementary School in Coldspring, New York.
