Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger now takes the lead role in California. He'll try to fix a state with enormous budget problems that led to the recall of long-time governor Gray Davis. What does that mean for the environment, in a state that often has been much more stringent on those issues than the rest of the country? Schwarzenegger of course is a gold mine for satirists, with his cartoon character action hero roles and distinctive Austrian accent. That lampooning already has extended to his environmental policies. But Schwarzenegger has outlined his environmental views to a point. Schwarzenegger has talked extensively about air pollution and particularly what's generated by the massive amounts of automotive traffic in the state.
