ABSTRACT
Los Angeles, California, does not have many enduring traditions, but one claim it proudly keeps is the title of Bank Robbery Capital of the World. The worst was the North Hollywood shoot-out in 1997 when two robbers in body armor held off police long enough to be filmed live on television. The tradition has produced a subculture of stories, and now a book. This saga forms part of a book titled "Where the Money Is" by William Render to be released in Australia next month. Render worked with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation's bank robbery squad in the region for 31 years until 1999.
