ABSTRACT
Demand for procedures that make life easier is rapidly increasing the cost of health care in the United States. Among the most expensive procedures are the increasingly popular joint and cardiac-valve replacements, major chest surgeries and stomach reductions. As bariatric surgery can be done less invasively, more people are choosing it as well. The most costly of those procedures were bariatric surgery, hip and knee replacements, cardiac valve/cardiac defibrillator implants and major chest procedures.
