ABSTRACT
The article presents an analysis of Hollywood pirate films. Topics covered include the interpretations of pirates as rebels, criminals and anarcho-libertarians in pirate movies including the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise starring Johnny Depp, which includes "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," and a brief history of piracy, including the emergence of pirates in the Caribbean during the early European colonial expansion.
